Football
For most punters football is the first sport bet on live, and its in-play vocabulary spills into the rest of the book. The terms are gathered below.
Match odds, tipsters, predictions, futsal and the wording of soccer markets are covered. Fractional odds (11/4, evens) are usual; exchanges and many apps show decimals.
Football carries two advertising arrangements. Dating from 1 August 2019, an industry code (not law) called whistle-to-whistle keeps betting off television screens before 9pm around a live sporting event, beginning five minutes ahead of it and ending five minutes after; horse and greyhound racing are excluded. On 13 April 2023 the Premier League clubs agreed that gambling sponsorship would leave the front of matchday shirts from 2026/27.
